🏞️ Circular routes from Sotres
If you want to explore the surroundings of Sotres without committing to a long or technical hike, there are two gentle circular routes that start and end right in the village — perfect for a relaxed morning or an afternoon stroll surrounded by the grandeur of the Picos de Europa.
🥾
1. Short circular route — around the village
This easy path begins in the heart of Sotres and gently winds around its edges, offering beautiful views of the village, its stone houses, and the dramatic limestone peaks that rise behind.
It’s the perfect route to get your bearings and enjoy the rural calm of the valley, always within sight of the village.
Along the way, you’ll reach La Caballar hill — one of the best viewpoints to watch the sunset over the Picos de Europa before heading back down to the cobbled streets of Sotres.
Duration: 45–60 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

2. La Caballar viewpoint — extended loop
For those with a bit more time, this slightly longer route continues upwards to La Caballar, following a quiet shepherd’s path that rewards you with spectacular 360º views.
From the top, you can see the whole valley unfold — with Sotres below, Tresviso in the distance, and the rugged ridges of the Central and Eastern Massifs on the horizon.
Duration: 1.5–2 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Both routes start directly from the house and can be done year-round. Wear comfortable footwear and take your time — every turn reveals another perfect view worth pausing for.

Both routes can be done year-round, although in winter it’s advisable to check the weather and wear appropriate footwear.
The trails are not signposted, but they are clearly visible and easy to follow.
